• Megan Thee Stallion revamped her diet for better mental and physical health.
  • She cut back on sugary drinks and red meat, and started eating more nutrient-dense foods.
  • Her protein-packed smoothie recipe contains strawberries and banana.

If you follow Megan Thee Stallion on social media, you'll know the rapper takes her fitness seriously — and has the physique to prove it.

But challenging workouts are only part of Megan's wellness regime. In recent years, she's also overhauled her diet to help boost her mental and physical health, she told Women's Health in an interview published on Wednesday.

Megan, 29, said that she got her fitness and workouts down first but wasn't seeing the change in her body until she changed her diet, cutting back on sugary drinks and red meat, and drinking lots of water.

Megan started eating more nutrient-dense foods including avocados, sweet potatoes, fish, and vegetables, and noticed she felt less bloated and her skin got clearer. However, she still enjoys her favorite treats including pepper jack cheese and dark chocolate in moderation, she said.

Megan Thee Stallion's protein smoothie

Before working out in the morning, Megan drinks green juice or a protein smoothie consisting of:

  • Strawberries

  • Banana

  • Almond milk

  • Protein powder

Carbs, found in the banana and strawberries, provide energy for exercising. Protein is important for helping muscles repair and regrow after workouts, but dietitians recommend consuming it spread out over the course of the day, not just after training.

To make a balanced smoothie, dietitian Nichola Ludlam-Raine previously told Business Insider that you should include fruit, milk, greens, healthy fats, fiber, and protein, she said.

"These combined help to slow down the release of the energy from the blended fruit," Ludlam-Raine said.

Megan's trainer previously told BI that her workouts focus on the core and glutes, but ample rest is also key to progress in the gym.
